Labor Day is fast approaching, that time of the year, when many handmade sellers take advantage of a nationwide event to push up sales. Many people have the day off but many businesses hold special sales over the weekend to drive traffic to their stores.

Here is a list to help inspire your Labor Day marketing campaigns.

5-Labor-Day-Marketing-Tips-For-Handmade-Sellers1. Open Your Store

Some online shops and retailers are open on Labor Day and promoting sales all week long, handmade businesses should also stay open. When you get a free day off, apart from the hustle and bustle of the weekends, you’re more apt to tackle projects that have been put on hold but this is a good time for snagging holiday shoppers eager to get the last bit out of summer or prepare for the winter.

2. Hold A Sale

Nothing gets more customers coming in your Etsy or online store than an old-fashioned sale. Slash the prices of either your least popular products to gain interest of people to those that rarely gets purchased or your most popular ones to squeeze consumer interest off those products.

3. Promote In Advance

Send a catalog or brochure to your target audience a few days before your big sale or event. You want to send it early enough – before your customers make other plans. Mention that they should be looking for a coupon postcard the day before and make sure it arrives on time. Craft an outstanding limited-time offer!

Labor Day direct marketing doesn’t have to be bland, and it doesn’t even have to be labor related. When designing your next direct-marketing postcards, brochures and flyers, be creative and combine some of the aforementioned concepts with a great offer and persuasive call to action, and you’ll be well on your way to whistling while you work this year.

4. Labor Day Coupon Codes

Using coupon codes is a great way to start your Labor Day sale, as it provides you with a wealth of information about customers and your market. Coupon codes allow you to track whether or not people bought from your store during the duration of the sale.
To maximize the effectiveness of coupon codes, create a unique code for each batch and record how you plan to dispatch them. For instance, a batch can be handed out to people as you would with flyers while another can be given out to customers after making a purchase prior to the day of the sale.

5. Host A Labor Day Raffle

Hold a raffle throughout Labor Day weekend and offer it to your customers. If they come in they buy something from your store they get a free ticket to a raffle. Let them know if they win you will contact them and deliver their prize. When they join the raffle, you can also ask them to join your mailing list.

Labor Day serves as a day of rest and as a reminder that the summer is drawing to a close, but that doesn’t mean you should relax your marketing efforts. How about you? Are you ready to market your handmade goods this coming Labor Day?
